Day Night Tundra

Winter is closing in as the daylight stretches out. Day Night Tundra is a poem that pulls between the desire to go out and explore the beautiful but frozen landscape or to stay indoors by a warm fire.

Day Night Tundra

Trembling,
I ignore the day-night blue.
Eager for fossil fuel’s
artificial caress.

Later,

during an accidental session
of pane gazing,
I appreciate the frozen tundra
of the garden scape.

Marvelling at the night vision
Of the naked eye,
the full moon behind
Night White Cloud.

The white carpet’s rejection,
forcing moonbeams to
seek out leaves and branches.

Unmoved by stillness
unbending in the vacuum of turbulence,
these living sculptures delight
in capturing the essence of moment.

The pane disappears,

I am mesmerised by the day-night blue.

Trembling,
as a whisper of wind
melts its ice breath
on the warmth of my flesh.

I beat my unwilling retreat.
